Goosey & Gander

Our two geese that visit for a few weeks each spring stopped in this week. When we bought our land four years ago, we named them Goosey and Gander. It’s hard to know for sure that they are the same two geese each year; but we think they are.

For The Love Of Trees

Trees hold a special place in our hearts at Galloway Farm. We love climbing them and planting them and and eating from them and playing hide and seek among them. We spent the day just enjoying them.

We hammered “tree vitamins” aka fertilizer spikes near all our young trees, including this baby Big Leaf Maple tree:

Cold Winter Saturday

The sun was out, but the combination of the temperature and north wind was classic February weather in Tennessee. A few hours outside was just enough to make us look forward to some warm chili and apple cider.

This weekend at the farm, our youth pastor surprised his girlfriend with a ring and a very important question…she said yes and now they are planning a wedding!

After ten days of rain and clouds, a sunny 50 degree Saturday is a welcome site. We were all feeling a little cooped up and some extra farm time was the cure.

Lazy Winter Days

After a cold spell, 45 degrees on a Saturday seems pretty warm. A good opportunity to get outside and play. A cozy fire, or in this case three cozy fires, keeps the chill away and can be nice to lay beside and enjoy the quiet of the day.

A pvc pipe can be made into lots of fun things.

And a good wrestling match inside can be fun too.

Pigs On The Run

Since we’ve owned pigs, I’ve learned several important things you’ll want to know if you plan to own pigs:

1). Pigs LOVE to get out of a pen. They’ll find any flaw in your fenceline and sneak out for an adventure walk to neighboring farms and flower beds.
2). NEVER chase pigs out in the open. Pigs are surprisingly quick when startled. Unless you are in an enclosed area or are an extremely good tackler, don’t chase pigs.
3). Pigs do love food. They spend their lives looking for things to eat. In fact, pigs never feel full which is why they eat continually and get so big. So if you’ll take some sweet feed or pig food in a bucket, and let them have a sample, they’ll follow you anywhere including back to the barn.

BFFs

Our two mini pigs have grown up fast. Baby (black) & Piggy are never far apart. Mini pigs have turned out to be a wonderful addition to our family farm. They are extremely curious, very social and always start lots of fun conversations with friends!

Autumn Saturdays

We enjoyed a lazy Saturday afternoon this week. Just our family and just being lazy and having fun being outside. It was dry and warm out. We spent extra time out since we know the cooler rainy fall days will come soon.
