  Here’s a quick video of our baby ducks being released to live on their own.  I bought them just a few weeks ago.  I HAVE NEVER seen any animal grow as fast as ducklings.  Check out the pics from previous posts to see how small they were just a couple of weeks ago.

 Here’s a shot of me helping shear our sheep.  The whole family showed up for this.  I figured this would take just a few minutes…boy was I wrong.  This is hard work!  I had to hold Puff in place while Justin worked his way through about 4 inches of serious wool.  Notice how brown Puff’s wool is on top from the sun; but see how black her wool is underneath.  We had bad weather and were only able to finish one of our sheep.  Our white sheep, Pearl, will get her shearing later this week.

I stocked the pond in March of 2009, mostly with hybrid bream; but also with some bass.  These bass were maybe 4 inches long then.  This one’s a good 9 inches or better and already puts up a heck of a fight.

My friend Rance Frye spent two hours with me recently, identifying trees.  Rance is a 25 year veteran forester.  He knows what kind of tree they are, how old they are, the latin names, etc.  He’s a walking encyclopedia when it comes to trees.  We tagged 39 of our larger trees.  I took this shot after he decided he needed a closer look at the leaves of this tree…and he just climbed that sucker like a cat! 

Rance is also a professional “land stager”.  He helps land owners prepare their land for sale.

Couldn’t resist these little guys at Tractor Supply Company this week.  They’re not  quite big enough to make it on their own in our pond just yet; so they’re in the barn for a few weeks.  They are mallards.
