The garden is starting to give us a few ready to pick veggies each day now. One of my favorite garden treats is to make our own pickles from cucumbers. So far, my results are hit or miss so send me your favorite pickle recipe for me to try!
Everyone comes running when they know I’ve got a little ‘sweet feed’ (grains mixed with molasses).

Nothing as refreshing on a hot Tennessee day than cold well water that comes up from 300 feet below ground.

I can’t think of many things more peaceful than watching a hard rain come across the farm. It quiets the hustle and bustle and gives everything a delicious drink.

We started our garden early this year and we’ve fought late frosts, cold damp days and just generally bad weather for growing a garden. Now we’ve got sunny warm days and mild nights. That means it’s time to fight the weeds and make sure those young plants get plenty of water. We’re seriously beginner gardeners but we love every minute of it.

A big shout out for the Mantis micro tiller. You see ads for these in every garden magazine and we bought one to see if it would help weeding between plants. It’s awesome. Only twenty lbs so it’s easy to carry. Blades are just 9 inches across…perfect for chopping weeds near the plants.

We discovered 5 large fire ant mounds. Fire ants get their name from their painful sting that feels similar to hot fire when stung. (They bite too, but only to get a good grip for their sting.)
With so many kids around our place, we had to kill the mounds as a precaution. Check out these videos of just how fast these angry ants can come out of the mound.
