Roasting chestnuts is easy & fun. If you have access to a chestnut tree, grab a bucketful. Wait till the spiky husks fall from the tree and the nuts will usually just be laying everywhere under the tree. You can open the soft shells and eat the nuts raw or follow these easy steps to roast them:
– select big healthy looking chestnuts from your bucket
– using a sharp paring knife, cut slits in the pointed end of the chestnut
– this allows the shells to expose the nut as they roast and it prevents them from exploding (seriously!)
– spread them out on a baking pan
– bake @ 350-ish degrees for about 40 minutes
– enjoy them while they’re hot!
