Congratulations!

Love must be in the air around the farm this fall!  This couple met at the farm during a church bon fire last fall…and one year later they got engaged at this year’s church bon fire.  How exciting is that?!  And to top it all off, they are considering having their special wedding at the farm as well in 2012.

We had our very first wedding on the farm this fall.  It was a gorgeous day and so exciting to see such an important event take place right here on our farm.

First Harvest

Well, there’s good news.  And there’s bad news…

The bad news is that our first pumpkin harvest was not enough to have a pumpkin sale.  The good news is that we had fun doing it, and we learned a lot that will help us yield a better crop next year.  We’ll start earlier in the year, till the dirt more times before we plant, and find a better way to keep the weeds out.  We did get 10 cute little pumpkins that we’ll use to decorate for fall and we’ll enjoy these ten little pumpkins more than any we could have bought because we grew them together from seeds.

Sister Cows!

Nope, you’re not seeing things…our new cows do look like Oreos.  One is black/white and her sister is red/white.  They’re called Belted Galloways, or Belties for short.  How could we pass up on a breed called Galloway?  We just got them a few days ago and we’re glad to have them as part of the Galloway farm animal family!

Claude In Training

Two year old Claude is “in training” and doing a fantastic job.  I caught this far off shot of him as he slipped over to the sheep pen to take care business.  Only problem was that his back side was to everyone at the party…and let’s just say it provided a really good laugh from everyone there.

For my 40th birthday, my wife Rhonda single-handedly pulled off a surprise birthday party complete with lots of friends, family, ribs and a hot air balloon!  The hot air balloon was a huge hit and gave everyone rides high up into the air.  My favorite part was after the sun set, seeing how the balloon glowed and was like a giant firework in the night sky.

Pumpkin Flowers

Our pumpkin patch is coming along nicely.  This week we have flowers on all our plants, meaning baby pumpkins are not far behind.  You can get a good glimpse below of how pumpkins come in behind the flowers.  60 days till the pumpkin sale.  You can follow the kids’ project at www.galloway6.com

Mushroom Beauties

A patch of gorgeous white mushrooms came up this week.  Not sure if you can eat mushrooms like this or not; but they would take care of a lot of pizzas if you can.

Peaches!

Almost ready, these peaches are just a few days from picking.  This is the first year out of three that I’ve been able to get the peaches this far along without losing them to mold and bugs.  Can’t wait to eat them and share them!

This is a shot from under the tree.  The peaches are so heavy that we had to put this board under the branches to support it and prevent it from breaking.

We recently came across this GIANT camo leaf colored moth.  It shows up nicely against the red barn; but imagine how hard it would be to see this with a backdrop of leaves or grass.  Anybody know what it is??
